Cadness Street N30 Apartments successfully deliver modern, sustainable social housing—combining thoughtful architecture with sound urban planning. With 55 well-proportioned homes, community spaces, and sensitive integration to adjacent reserves and public realm, the project exemplifies how density, design quality, and social infrastructure can work together as part of the wider Northcote regeneration.
Design Engineers Ltd was engaged as the facade engineering consultant for the Cadness Street N30 Apartments project. Our scope involved the full structural design and PS1 documentation for the building's exterior facade systems, including the glazed joinery, cladding interfaces, and balcony balustrades.
Our team conducted detailed assessments of wind loading and structural performance, ensuring the proposed facade solutions complied with New Zealand Building Code requirements for strength, durability, and weather tightness. Particular attention was given to the selection and verification of aluminum joinery systems, with full structural checks carried out under Ultimate and Serviceability Limit State load cases.
We also provided design input on seismic movement accommodation for facade elements, as well as load-bearing analysis for fixings and support brackets. From concept coordination to final documentation, our work ensured a compliant, robust, and aesthetically integrated facade solution aligned with the project's architectural vision.
